When it comes to the travel times of the year especially during the holidays, leaving your dog with a friend is really the only option that you have because there is usually no one that can keep a watchful eye on the dog in your house for you while you are away. When this happens, your dog will most likely be staying over at a friend's house while during the trip. While this can seem like a fun and exciting experience, in reality for a dog this can prove to be a disaster if the appropriate preparations are not taken care of.

It is a must that while packing for your dogs overnight stay you pack all items that your dog will need to be comfortable. Leaving only a single item behind that is essential to your dogs wellbeing can be very dramatizing for your dog. You should bring plenty of food, treats, toys and a feeding schedule for your dog.

You may also want to bring the dog's bed among many other items so that your dog stays comfortable while you are away. Above all, one thing that you cannot forget is the dog's favorite chew toys unless you want to turn your friend's sofa into the dog's new toy. Your dog when he is in a new location will want to grab up anything that can fit in his mouth as well as sniff at everything that is new to him. Making sure he has a chew toy he knows is a lot better than letting him chew up something at your friend's home.

Friend's homes which have children!

Kids are not at all cautious about anything! Most of all kids typically do not fear anything at all. If your friends home has children you will want to make sure your dog sniffs and gets introduced to the children properly.

While your dog may in general be very tame and great with kids, children who have a new dog in their home will easily become excited and may even startle the dog which can in turn result in an aggressive behavior. As a last resort, if your dog does show aggressive tendencies, take him to a boarding kennel while you are away.
